Circa 1947 Kishan is employed with Thomas as an independent contractor, and lives a middle-classed lifestyle in occupied India along with his expectant wife, Geeta, who has a compassionate brother in Shewakram. Kishan suddenly passes away in an accident and a devastated Geeta, who wants to kill herself, is consoled by her brother. But the situation gets even worse when she loses the baby and resigns herself to her situation. With the increase in religious riots after the departure of the British, she comes across an abandoned male child, takes him home, adopts him and named him Raju. Five years later she will face challenges when the wife, Razia, of Advocate Iqbal Hussein, will show up to claim Raju as her's - and is even prepared to take custody through the courts.

Widowed Rajkumar Chauhan is an honest and diligent Income Tax Officer, who does his job without being intimidated or accepting bribes. He lives with his son, Vikram, and his mom. An agitated Dhansukh attempts to pacify Rajkumar, by first offering him bribes and then intimidation, but it proves to be all in vain. Then Dhanshukh finds out that his college-going daughter, Dolly, has fallen in love with Vikram - and he decides to make use of this romance in order to get even with Rajkumar. Anju Rai lives a wealthy lifestyle with her widowed dad in a palatial house. She is now of marriageable age, and her dad has arranged her marriage with Advocate Amarnath. Both Anju and Amarnath meet and fall in love with each other. Shortly before their formal engagement, Anju notices a change in Amarnath - as he appears to be drifting further from her. Then he decides to demolish his house and re-built it, and also refuses to go near any Mandir - either alone or in Anju`s company. When part of the house collapses, he is injured, but recuperates quickly. It is then the town is set afire with rumors that Amarnath may have sexually molested a village belle named Sonia, who sells milk, lives a poor lifestyle with her widowed dad, cruel step-mother, and is to be married to the village goon, Shankar. Watch what happens when Shankar gets killed, and Sonia is arrested for killing him.
